Company intelligence / Profile preview
Groupe SNPE (Société Nationale des Poudres et Explosifs) was a French state-owned industrial group that operated as a major player in the pharmaceutical fine chemicals sector through its subsidiary, Isochem. The company specialized in the contract development and manufacturing (CDMO) of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and advanced intermediates, leveraging its historical expertise in energetic materials and complex chemistry. Key capabilities included phosgenation, hydrogenation, and the synthesis of amino acid derivatives and peptides. Following a strategic restructuring by the French government in the early 2010s, the group's pharmaceutical assets were divested to private equity, while its defense and propellant operations were merged into what eventually became ArianeGroup and Eurenco.
