Overview

Hafslund Nycomed was a prominent Norwegian industrial conglomerate formed in 1986 through the merger of the energy company Hafslund and the pharmaceutical company Nycomed. The company was a global leader in the development and manufacture of medical imaging contrast agents, most notably Omnipaque (iohexol). In 1996, the group was demerged, separating its energy and pharmaceutical interests into independent entities. The pharmaceutical division, continuing as Nycomed, was eventually acquired by Takeda Pharmaceuticals in 2011, while the imaging business became part of Amersham and subsequently GE Healthcare.
