Harlan Laboratories was a leading global provider of research models and services to the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device industries. Founded in 1931, the company became one of the world's largest suppliers of laboratory animals, including the widely used Sprague Dawley rat. In addition to animal models, Harlan provided laboratory animal diets, bedding, and a range of contract research services such as toxicology and safety assessment. In 2015, the company merged with Huntingdon Life Sciences to form Envigo, which was subsequently acquired by Inotiv in 2021.
