Harlem YWCA

The Harlem YWCA is a historic non-profit organization founded in 1905 that has played a pivotal role in providing healthcare education and social services to the African American community in New York City. Historically, the organization operated a nursing school that offered formal state qualifications and hospital placements, addressing the critical shortage of trained Black healthcare professionals during the mid-20th century. Beyond its educational contributions, the Harlem YWCA has been a long-standing advocate for public health, maternal care, and reproductive rights. Today, as a branch of the YWCA of the City of New York, it continues to focus on health equity, social justice, and the empowerment of women through community-based wellness and advocacy programs.
