The company is most notable for its role as the primary supplier of paclitaxel (Taxol) to Bristol-Myers Squibb during the drug's initial commercialization for cancer treatment. Hauser operated as a contract research and manufacturing organization (CRMO), providing services ranging from process development to large-scale production of plant-derived compounds. Beyond oncology, the company provided high-purity extracts for the dietary supplement and flavor markets. After facing financial difficulties and a Chapter 11 filing, the company was acquired by the Zuellig Group in 2003.
