HealthExtras was a healthcare services company that primarily operated as a pharmacy benefit manager (PBM). Founded in 1995 and headquartered in Rockville, Maryland, the company initially focused on providing supplemental health and disability benefits before transitioning its core business to PBM services. It provided cost-management solutions for prescription drug programs to self-insured employers, unions, and government entities. In 2008, the company rebranded as Catalyst Health Solutions to reflect its primary focus on pharmacy benefit management. The company was publicly traded on the NASDAQ under the symbol HLEX until its rebranding and subsequent acquisition. It was eventually acquired by SXC Health Solutions in 2012, which later became part of OptumRx under UnitedHealth Group.
