Heart Technology was a pioneering medical device company that developed the Rotablator, a rotational atherectomy system designed to treat severely calcified coronary artery disease. The technology utilizes a high-speed, diamond-coated burr to selectively ablate hard plaque while sparing healthy, elastic arterial tissue. This innovation provided interventional cardiologists with a critical tool for managing complex lesions that were otherwise difficult to treat with standard balloon angioplasty. The company's success in the cardiology market led to its acquisition by Boston Scientific in 1995 for approximately $500 million.
