Overview
HelioThera is a pre-clinical stage biotechnology company focused on developing engineered cytokine therapies for autoimmune and neuroinflammatory diseases. The company's lead program is SA-IL-10, a serum albumin-fused interleukin-10 (IL-10) licensed from the University of Chicago. By fusing IL-10 to serum albumin, HelioThera extends the cytokine's plasma half-life and enhances its accumulation in secondary lymphoid organs (SLOs), which are key sites of autoreactive T cell priming. In pre-clinical models of multiple sclerosis (experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis), SA-IL-10 has demonstrated superior efficacy in preventing disease development and progression compared to wild-type IL-10.
