Hematech

Hematech was a pioneering biotechnology company specializing in the development of human polyclonal antibodies through transgenic animal technology. Based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the company developed a unique "transchromosomic" (Tc) bovine platform, where cattle were genetically engineered to carry human immunoglobulin genes. This allowed the animals to produce high titers of fully human polyclonal antibodies in response to specific antigens, offering a powerful tool for treating infectious diseases and biothreats. Hematech was acquired by Kirin Brewery Company (later Kyowa Kirin) in 2005 to bolster their antibody research capabilities. The technology and personnel from Hematech later formed the foundation for SAB Biotherapeutics, which continues to advance the Tc bovine platform today.
