HemeBiotech

HemeBiotech was a Danish-Swedish biopharmaceutical company focused on developing therapies for rare genetic diseases, especially disorders of the heme biosynthetic pathway. Its lead program was Porphozym, a recombinant human porphobilinogen deaminase enzyme being developed for acute intermittent porphyria as an enzyme replacement therapy. Historical sources indicate the company was later renamed Zymenex, which expanded around rare-disease enzyme therapeutics and was subsequently acquired by Chiesi in 2013. HemeBiotech appears to be out of business as a standalone entity and no longer operates independently under the original name. The company is best understood as the predecessor brand/entity to Zymenex rather than a currently active standalone biotech.
