HemoCleanse was a medical technology company based in West Lafayette, Indiana, that specialized in the development of extracorporeal blood purification systems. Founded in 1982 by Dr. Stephen R. Ash, the company created the BioLogic-DT and BioLogic-DTP systems, which were designed to treat acute liver failure and severe drug overdoses. These systems utilized sorbent-based dialysis to remove both water-soluble and protein-bound toxins from the blood, providing a bridge to liver transplantation or recovery. In 2001, the company's liver dialysis business was acquired by Gambro, a major player in the dialysis market, which was later acquired by Baxter International. HemoCleanse's innovative approach to sorbent technology remains a foundational element in the field of extracorporeal liver support.
