Hepatera is a Russian biotechnology company specializing in the development of innovative therapies for chronic liver diseases, most notably chronic hepatitis B and D. The company's flagship product is bulevirtide (formerly Myrcludex B), a first-in-class entry inhibitor that blocks the sodium/bile acid cotransporter (NTCP) receptor, thereby preventing the hepatitis B and D viruses from entering healthy liver cells. Developed through a strategic partnership with the German firm MYR GmbH (which was acquired by Gilead Sciences in 2021), bulevirtide is the first approved treatment for chronic hepatitis D in several jurisdictions, including Russia and the European Union. Hepatera was founded in 2011 as a portfolio company of the Maxwell Biotech Venture Fund and operates as a resident of the Skolkovo Innovation Center in Moscow. The company continues to manage the clinical development and commercialization of bulevirtide within the Russian and CIS markets.
