Herbert Laboratories

Herbert Laboratories was a specialized pharmaceutical company focused on the development and commercialization of dermatological products. Founded by G.S. Herbert, the company established itself as a leader in topical skin treatments during the mid-20th century. In 1986, Allergan acquired the company from SmithKline Beckman for approximately $82 million to bolster its presence in the dermatology market. The acquisition brought several key products into Allergan's portfolio, including Fluoroplex for actinic keratosis and Erymax for acne. Following years of integration and subsequent corporate mergers, the legacy of Herbert Laboratories now resides within AbbVie's dermatology business.
