Hindustan Antibiotics

Hindustan Antibiotics is an Indian government-owned pharmaceutical manufacturer based in Pimpri, Pune, and is widely recognized as the first public sector undertaking in India's drugs and pharmaceuticals sector. The company manufactures and markets antibiotics, anti-infectives, bulk drugs, and finished formulations including injectables, capsules, tablets, liquid orals, and large volume parenterals. Historically, it commercialized classic anti-infective products such as penicillin, streptomycin, gentamicin, ampicillin, and amoxycillin, and it has also produced recombinant products such as rHU-erythropoietin under the Hemax brand. In addition to human pharmaceuticals, the company has diversified into agro-vet products. Hindustan Antibiotics has faced long-standing financial stress, but it remains an operating central public sector enterprise under India's Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers.
