Hiscia Institute

The Hiscia Institute, the research arm of the Society for Cancer Research (Verein für Krebsforschung), is a Swiss institution based in Arlesheim dedicated to the development of anthroposophic cancer therapies. Founded in 1949, it is the birthplace of Iscador, one of the most widely used mistletoe-based complementary cancer treatments in Europe. The institute conducts extensive research into the botany, pharmacology, and clinical efficacy of mistletoe (Viscum album) and other natural substances like Helleborus foetidus. Its operations include pharmaceutical development, manufacturing of specialized extracts, and clinical studies aimed at improving survival and quality of life for cancer patients.
