Hoechst-Roussel Pharmaceuticals was a prominent American pharmaceutical joint venture established between the German chemical giant Hoechst AG and the French firm Roussel Uclaf. Headquartered in Somerville, New Jersey, the company served as a major commercial vehicle for marketing innovative therapies in the United States during the late 20th century. The firm was particularly recognized for its contributions to cardiovascular health, infectious diseases, and allergy management, launching blockbuster products such as Altace and Allegra. In 1995, the entity was consolidated into Hoechst Marion Roussel following the acquisition of Marion Merrell Dow.
