Company intelligence / Profile preview
Holy Names University (HNU), formerly known as Holy Names College, was a private Catholic university located in Oakland, California, that operated from 1868 until its closure in 2023. The institution was particularly recognized for its School of Nursing, which provided CCNE-accredited programs such as the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) to students in the San Francisco Bay Area. While primarily an academic institution, HNU maintained strong ties to the healthcare sector through its clinical training partnerships and health science curricula. In December 2022, the university announced it would cease operations following the Spring 2023 semester due to financial challenges and declining enrollment. Following its closure, HNU established a legacy partnership with Dominican University of California to ensure the continuity of its academic records and support student transfers. The university's 60-acre campus was subsequently sold to a real estate investment firm.
