Homburg

Homburg Pharma, historically known as Chemiewerk Homburg AG, was a prominent German pharmaceutical company that operated as a subsidiary of Degussa. The company was a pioneer in the development of alkylating agents for oncology, most notably contributing to the discovery and commercialization of ifosfamide and cyclophosphamide. Beyond oncology, Homburg was instrumental in the development of psychotropic medications, including the tricyclic antidepressant doxepin. In 1978, the company was merged with ASTA-Werke to form ASTA Medica, which was later dismantled and sold to various international pharmaceutical entities. Today, the legacy of Homburg lives on through the continued clinical use of its foundational small molecule therapies in cancer and mental health.
