Company intelligence / Profile preview
The Hong Kong Jockey Club Institute of Chinese Medicine (HKJICM) was established in 2001 as a non-profit company to spearhead the modernization and internationalization of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Funded by a HK$500 million donation from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, it operated as a subsidiary of the Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI). The institute focused on scientific research, quality control, and the establishment of industry standards, such as the Hong Kong Chinese Materia Medica Standards. It served as a platform for collaboration between the government, academia, and the TCM industry to promote evidence-based medicine. In 2011, the Hong Kong government dissolved the institute to streamline the development of TCM, transferring its core functions to the Department of Health.
