Hospal

Hospal was a pioneering medical technology company specializing in the development and manufacture of equipment for hemodialysis and renal replacement therapy. Founded in 1974 as a joint venture between Rhône-Poulenc and Sandoz, the company became a global leader in nephrology, particularly recognized for its innovation in membrane technology. Its most significant contribution was the development of the AN69 polyacrylonitrile membrane, which greatly improved treatment biocompatibility for patients with kidney failure. The company's product portfolio included advanced dialysis machines, filters, and solutions for both chronic and acute renal care. Following its acquisition by Gambro and subsequently by Baxter International, Hospal's technologies remain foundational to modern blood purification treatments. Today, the Hospal brand is integrated into Baxter's Renal Care business unit.
