Hydrogel Design Systems (HDS) was a biotechnology company focused on the development of advanced hydrogel-based drug delivery systems. Founded in 1993 by pioneers in the field, including Dr. Robert Langer and Dr. Nicholas Peppas, the company specialized in creating biocompatible polymers that could provide controlled and sustained release of therapeutic agents. Its technology was designed to improve the efficacy and safety of various drugs by modulating their release profiles within the body. HDS's innovative approach to polymer science aimed to address significant challenges in treating chronic conditions and improving patient compliance. In 1997, the company was acquired by Becton Dickinson (BD) for approximately $20 million.
