Ibis Biosciences, a subsidiary of Abbott Laboratories, is a biotechnology company specializing in the rapid identification and characterization of infectious agents. Originally founded as a division of Isis Pharmaceuticals (now Ionis), the company developed the TIGER platform, which combines high-throughput PCR with electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) to identify virtually all known bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Its flagship product, the PLEX-ID system, was designed for clinical diagnostics, environmental monitoring, and biodefense applications. Since its acquisition by Abbott in 2009, Ibis has focused on integrating its molecular identification technology into broader diagnostic workflows for hospital and clinical laboratory settings.
