IBN-One

IBN-One is a joint venture between the French specialty chemicals company Arkema and the South Korean biotechnology group CJ CheilJedang, established to pioneer the industrial-scale production of bio-methionine. The company operates a flagship manufacturing facility in Kerteh, Malaysia, which is the first in the world to produce L-methionine through a fermentation process using renewable sugars. This bio-based approach provides a sustainable and high-purity alternative to traditional chemical synthesis methods that rely on petrochemical feedstocks. By combining Arkema's specialized sulfur chemistry with CJ CheilJedang's advanced fermentation technology, IBN-One serves the global animal nutrition market, specifically targeting poultry and swine feed. The venture represents a significant milestone in industrial biotechnology, moving amino acid production toward more environmentally friendly processes.
