ICx Nomadics

ICx Nomadics, originally founded as Nomadics, Inc., was a leading developer of high-sensitivity sensor systems for the detection of explosives, chemical agents, and biological threats. The company's core technology is based on Amplifying Fluorescent Polymers (AFP), a platform licensed from MIT that provides a 'molecular wire' effect to achieve detection limits comparable to or exceeding those of biological systems like canine olfaction. Their flagship product, the Fido explosives detector, became a standard tool for military and security forces worldwide. Beyond defense, the company applied its sensing expertise to life sciences through the development of Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) systems and other bio-analytical tools. ICx Nomadics was acquired by ICx Technologies, which was subsequently purchased by FLIR Systems (now Teledyne FLIR) in 2010.
