Imaging Research Inc. (IRI) was a specialized developer of high-performance image analysis software and instrumentation for the life sciences and drug discovery sectors. Founded in 1986 as a spin-off from Brock University, the company became widely recognized for its MCID (MicroComputer Imaging Device) software, which set industry standards for quantitative autoradiography and densitometry. Their product suite supported researchers in neuroscience, oncology, and pharmacology by providing precise tools for analyzing biological samples and drug distribution. In 2004, the company was acquired by Amersham Biosciences (now part of GE Healthcare) to integrate its advanced imaging capabilities into a broader portfolio of discovery systems. Today, its legacy technologies continue to influence the field of digital pathology and quantitative bio-imaging.
