IMEL Biotherapeutics is developing a proprietary MirC platform that replaces dysfunctional mitochondria in cells with healthy ones. In preclinical studies using animal models of Leigh syndrome and human stem/T cells, the company has demonstrated replacement of up to 90% of dysfunctional mitochondria. The lead program targets immunosenescence with plans for a Phase I trial in solid tumors. Additional work is ongoing in rare pediatric mitochondrial disorders such as Leigh syndrome.
