Immune Enhancement Project

The Immune Enhancement Project (IEP) was a pioneering non-profit healthcare organization based in San Francisco that specialized in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for individuals with HIV/AIDS and other chronic illnesses. Established in 1983 during the early years of the AIDS crisis, the clinic provided essential services including acupuncture, herbal consultations, and nutritional support. IEP was renowned for its integrative approach, working alongside Western medical providers to manage the complex symptoms and treatment side effects associated with immune-compromising conditions. The organization played a vital role in the community by offering low-cost, accessible care to underserved populations and advocating for the inclusion of holistic therapies in standard care protocols. Led by clinical director Misha Cohen, IEP also participated in clinical research to validate the efficacy of TCM in treating Hepatitis C and HIV-related complications. Although the clinic eventually ceased operations, its legacy continues to influence the field of integrative oncology and infectious disease management.
