Immune Response Corporation was a biopharmaceutical company founded in 1986 by Dr. Jonas Salk, the developer of the polio vaccine, to focus on therapeutic vaccines for HIV and autoimmune diseases. The company's lead product candidate, Remune, was an HIV-1 immunogen designed to boost the immune systems of individuals already infected with the virus. Despite reaching Phase 3 clinical trials, Remune failed to demonstrate significant clinical efficacy in large-scale studies, leading to the termination of major partnerships with companies like Agouron Pharmaceuticals. The company also developed a pipeline of T-cell receptor peptide-based therapies for conditions such as multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis. Following prolonged financial difficulties and clinical setbacks, the company filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy and ceased all operations in 2008.
