Immunization Products

Immunization Products was a joint venture formed in 1990 between Rhone-Poulenc Rorer and the Immune Response Corporation to develop therapeutic vaccines for HIV. The company's lead candidate was Remune (the Salk HIV Immunogen), an inactivated, envelope-depleted HIV-1 virus designed by Dr. Jonas Salk to stimulate immune responses in HIV-infected individuals. Remune progressed to Phase 3 clinical trials, making it one of the most advanced therapeutic HIV vaccine candidates of its time. However, the venture was effectively dissolved after Rhone-Poulenc Rorer (now Sanofi) withdrew from the partnership in 2001 following disappointing clinical data. The company is no longer active, and its primary asset failed to achieve regulatory approval.
