Overview

InCytu, Inc. was a biotechnology company based in Lincoln, Rhode Island, specializing in the development of "in situ bioreactive devices" (iBDs) for regenerative medicine and immunotherapy. Founded in 2007, the company was established to commercialize the "Cellarium" platform technology developed by Professor David Mooney at Harvard University. The Cellarium system utilized biodegradable polymer scaffolds to recruit and program immune cells, such as dendritic cells, directly within the patient's body to stimulate a targeted immune response against diseases like melanoma. In addition to its cancer vaccine program, InCytu developed applications for tissue regeneration, including treatments for chronic ischemic wounds (diabetic ulcers) and muscle repair. Although the company successfully advanced its technology through preclinical stages and established manufacturing capabilities, it became inactive around 2015, and its core immuno-material technology was subsequently licensed by Harvard's Wyss Institute to Novartis for further clinical development.
