Infigen

Infigen was a pioneering biotechnology company focused on animal cloning and transgenic technology for pharmaceutical and agricultural applications. Founded as a spin-off from ABS Global, the company achieved international recognition for cloning "Gene," the first calf produced from a non-embryonic cell. Infigen's core business centered on its proprietary somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) platform, which it used to develop transgenic livestock capable of producing human therapeutic proteins in their milk, a process known as biopharming. Additionally, the company explored the development of genetically modified animals for xenotransplantation to address the shortage of human organs for transplant. Despite its significant scientific contributions to the field of cloning, Infigen faced financial difficulties and ceased operations in the mid-2000s.
