Tusker Medical, originally founded as InfluENT Medical, is a medical technology company focused on developing innovative solutions for ear, nose, and throat (ENT) specialists. The company's flagship product is the Tula System, an automated ear tube delivery system designed for use in a physician's office setting. Tula is the first system of its kind to receive FDA clearance for the delivery of ear tubes in both children and adults using local anesthesia, offering an alternative to traditional surgery under general anesthesia. In January 2020, the company was acquired by Smith & Nephew to bolster its ENT portfolio. The technology aims to improve patient access and reduce the clinical risks associated with pediatric anesthesia by utilizing a proprietary iontophoresis technology to provide local anesthesia to the tympanic membrane prior to automated tube placement.
