Infrared Sciences was a medical device company focused on the development and commercialization of infrared imaging technology for breast cancer detection. Its primary product, the Sentinel BreastScan, was an FDA-cleared diagnostic tool designed to be used as an adjunct to mammography. The system utilized Digital Infrared Imaging (DII) to detect heat patterns and vascular changes that may indicate the presence of a tumor. By providing a non-invasive, radiation-free physiological assessment, the company sought to enhance early detection rates, especially in younger women and those with dense breast tissue. In 2010, the company was acquired by LumaSense Technologies, which integrated the technology into its thermal imaging and sensing business.
