Innovative Compounds, LLC (INC) was a pioneering biotechnology company focused on the discovery and development of small-molecule inhibitors of protein-protein interactions (PPIs) for cancer therapy. Founded in 2003 by Dr. Shaomeng Wang at the University of Michigan, the company leveraged advanced structure-based drug design to target the apoptosis pathway, specifically focusing on Bcl-2, Mcl-1, MDM2, and IAP. In 2005, the company was acquired by Cayman Chemical, which integrated its synthetic chemistry expertise, while the core therapeutic programs served as the foundational assets for the subsequent establishment of Ascentage Pharma. Notable compounds originating from INC's research include the pan-Bcl-2 inhibitor AT-101 and the IAP inhibitor AT-406 (xevinapant), both of which have seen significant clinical development. The company's work was instrumental in demonstrating the druggability of complex protein interfaces in oncology.
