Institute for Cancer Prevention

The Institute for Cancer Prevention (IFCP), originally established as the American Health Foundation in 1969, was a prominent non-profit research center dedicated to cancer etiology and prevention. Based in Valhalla, New York, it was the only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated cancer center focused exclusively on prevention research, particularly in the areas of tobacco-related carcinogens and nutrition. The institute played a significant historical role in public health by providing scientific evidence linking smoking to lung cancer. However, the organization ceased operations and filed for bankruptcy in 2004 following a major scientific misconduct scandal involving falsified data that resulted in the termination of its federal grants.
