Institute for Safe Traffic Technologies

The Institute for Safe Traffic Technologies (ITTS), officially known as Instituto de Tecnologias para o Trânsito Seguro, is a Brazilian non-governmental organization dedicated to improving road safety through technological innovation and public policy advocacy. Founded in 2015 and headquartered in Rio de Janeiro, the institute is best known for its instrumental role in the implementation of mandatory wide-window toxicological hair testing for professional drivers in Brazil. This initiative, supported by federal legislation, has been credited with significantly reducing drug-related traffic accidents and fatalities by identifying lifestyle drug use among commercial operators. ITTS collaborates with international organizations such as the United Nations and major diagnostic laboratories to promote evidence-based safety standards and public health interventions.
