Institute of Immunology, Zagreb

The Institute of Immunology, Zagreb (Imunološki zavod) is a state-owned Croatian immunobiological manufacturer and research institution founded in 1893. Historically one of the world's oldest and most prominent producers of vaccines and immunobiological medicines, the institute lost its manufacturing licenses in 2013 due to inadequate facility infrastructure. In 2015, it was restructured from a joint-stock company (Imunološki zavod d.d.) into a public health institution owned by the Republic of Croatia. Currently, the institute is undergoing a major revitalization project, which includes constructing a new state-of-the-art manufacturing complex in Rugvica to resume the production of snake antivenom, viral vaccines (such as measles, mumps, and rubella), and human plasma-derived therapeutics.
