Company intelligence / Profile preview
Insys Development Company was the research and development subsidiary of Insys Therapeutics, a specialty pharmaceutical company focused on supportive care and cannabinoid-based therapies. The company was best known for developing Subsys, a sublingual fentanyl spray for breakthrough cancer pain, and Syndros, an oral solution of dronabinol. Insys utilized a proprietary sublingual spray technology to improve the delivery and onset of action for existing molecules. Following a high-profile federal investigation into the illegal marketing of Subsys and the subsequent racketeering convictions of its top executives, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2019. Its assets, including its manufacturing facilities and product pipeline, were liquidated and sold to various pharmaceutical companies.
