Company intelligence / Profile preview
Insys Therapeutics was a specialty pharmaceutical company focused on developing and commercializing innovative therapies for pain management and supportive care. The company's lead product was Subsys, a sublingual fentanyl spray approved for the treatment of breakthrough cancer pain in opioid-tolerant patients. Additionally, Insys developed Syndros, an orally administered liquid formulation of dronabinol for chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting and anorexia associated with AIDS. The company became the center of a major federal investigation involving a racketeering conspiracy to bribe doctors to prescribe Subsys for off-label uses. This legal crisis led to the conviction of its founder and top executives, ultimately forcing the company to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2019. Following the bankruptcy, the company's assets were liquidated and its operations ceased.
