Integrated Surgical Systems

Integrated Surgical Systems was a pioneering medical technology company that developed the first robotic system for orthopedic surgery. Its flagship product, the ROBODOC Surgical System, was designed to assist surgeons in performing precise total hip and knee replacements by milling bone with sub-millimeter accuracy. The system utilized the DigiMatch workstation to convert CT scan data into a 3D surgical plan, which the robot then executed in the operating room. Despite being a first-mover in the surgical robotics space, the company faced significant regulatory and financial challenges during the 1990s and early 2000s. In 2007, the company's assets and technology were acquired by the South Korean firm Curexo, which continues to market the evolved technology under the Think Surgical brand.
