Integrated Vascular Interventional Technologies (IVIT) was a medical technology company focused on the development of bioabsorbable stent systems for treating vascular diseases. The company's core innovation involved the use of bioresorbable polymers to create temporary scaffolds that support the vessel wall during healing before being naturally absorbed by the body. This approach was designed to overcome the limitations of permanent metallic stents, such as chronic inflammation and restricted vessel vasomotion. Founded by a team of experts in interventional cardiology, IVIT became a leader in the early research of bioabsorbable vascular scaffolds. In 2001, the company was acquired by Guidant Corporation for approximately $55 million to enhance Guidant's portfolio of next-generation interventional products. The technology developed by IVIT eventually contributed to the advancement of bioresorbable scaffold programs within Abbott's vascular division following the Guidant acquisition.
