Company intelligence / Profile preview
Integrated Vascular Systems (IVS) was a medical technology company focused on the development of advanced vascular closure devices. The company's flagship product, the StarClose Vascular Closure System, featured a unique nitinol clip designed to provide a secure mechanical seal for femoral artery access sites following catheterization. This technology was developed to facilitate faster patient ambulation and discharge compared to traditional manual compression techniques. In 2003, IVS was acquired by Abbott Laboratories for $65 million in cash plus additional milestone payments. The acquisition allowed Abbott to expand its presence in the interventional cardiology market by integrating the StarClose system into its vascular product line.
