Company intelligence / Profile preview
IntegriGen was a privately held biotechnology company based in Novato, California, that specialized in the discovery and development of small molecule therapeutics for metabolic disorders. The company's primary research focus was the inhibition of 11-beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1 (11beta-HSD1), an enzyme that plays a critical role in regulating cortisol levels in the liver and adipose tissue. By targeting this enzyme, IntegriGen aimed to improve insulin sensitivity and address the underlying causes of Type 2 diabetes and obesity. In April 2006, the company was acquired by Takeda Pharmaceutical Company for approximately $35 million in cash plus potential future milestones. Following the acquisition, IntegriGen's metabolic programs were integrated into Takeda's global research and development pipeline to bolster its diabetes franchise.
