Interventional Technologies

Interventional Technologies (IVT) was a pioneering medical device company focused on the field of interventional cardiology. Headquartered in San Diego, the company developed and commercialized the Cutting Balloon, a specialized angioplasty device featuring longitudinal atherotomes designed to score plaque and facilitate vessel expansion. This technology was particularly effective in treating complex, calcified lesions and reducing the risk of vessel recoil and restenosis compared to standard balloon angioplasty. Beyond the Cutting Balloon, IVT developed the Infiltrator catheter, a device designed for the intramural delivery of therapeutic agents directly into the vessel wall. In 2001, Boston Scientific acquired the company for approximately $600 million to bolster its position in the vascular intervention market.
