At its peak before full integration into MSD/Merck's global animal health division, Intervet was among the world's top three veterinary pharma companies with ~$1.5B sales/year (~2006) and later acquired by Schering-Plough and fully integrated into Merck/MSD Animal Health divisions globally by the early/mid–2010s. It had a strong commercial portfolio of vaccines and pharmaceuticals across all major veterinary species, a global presence spanning >50 countries, and leadership positions especially within biologic/vaccine innovation. It pioneered several first-in-class products including live recombinant vaccines (e.g., equine vaccine against strangles), marker vaccines (e.g., against classical swine fever), and novel antiparasitics (e.g., SLICE® for aquaculture use).
