Intrabiotics Pharmaceuticals

Intrabiotics Pharmaceuticals was a biopharmaceutical company dedicated to the development of a new class of antimicrobial drugs based on naturally occurring peptides called protegrins. The company's lead product candidate, iseganan (IB-367), was a synthetic peptide designed to prevent and treat infections by rapidly killing a broad spectrum of bacteria and fungi. Despite reaching Phase 3 clinical trials for indications such as oral mucositis and ventilator-associated pneumonia, the programs faced significant clinical setbacks. The company eventually ceased independent operations and merged with Genaera Corporation in 2006.
