Company intelligence / Profile preview
Intrexon Energy Partners was a joint venture established by Intrexon Corporation to apply synthetic biology to the energy sector. The company focused on developing a methanotroph bioconversion platform designed to transform methane into high-value industrial chemicals and fuels, such as isobutanol. By engineering specialized bacteria, the venture aimed to create a more cost-effective and sustainable alternative to traditional petrochemical processes. The platform utilized methane as a low-cost feedstock, leveraging proprietary genetic engineering tools to optimize metabolic pathways in methanotrophic microbes. However, as its parent company transitioned to become Precigen and narrowed its focus to human gene and cell therapies, the energy-related assets were deprioritized. Consequently, the operations of Intrexon Energy Partners were eventually divested or discontinued as part of the parent's strategic pivot to healthcare.
