Ionalytics

Ionalytics was a Canadian life science tools company that specialized in the development of ion mobility technology for mass spectrometry. The company's primary innovation was the High-Field Asymmetric Waveform Ion Mobility Spectrometry (FAIMS) platform, which provided an additional dimension of gas-phase separation to improve the analysis of complex biological mixtures. By filtering out background noise and resolving isobaric compounds, the technology significantly enhanced the sensitivity and selectivity of proteomics and drug discovery workflows. Spun out from the National Research Council of Canada, Ionalytics successfully commercialized its FAIMS systems as add-on components for major mass spectrometry brands. The company was acquired by Thermo Electron Corporation in 2005 and its technology was subsequently integrated into the Thermo Scientific product line.
