Company intelligence / Profile preview
IonSpec Corporation was a pioneering life science instrumentation company that specialized in Fourier Transform Mass Spectrometry (FTMS) technology. Established in 1983, the company developed high-performance mass spectrometers that offered unparalleled resolution and mass accuracy for the analysis of large biomolecules. These systems were critical for applications in proteomics, drug discovery, and metabolomics within the pharmaceutical industry. In February 2002, IonSpec was acquired by Varian, Inc. for approximately $12 million to bolster Varian's analytical instrument offerings. Following Agilent Technologies' acquisition of Varian in 2010, IonSpec's core technologies were integrated into Agilent's broader mass spectrometry portfolio.
