Company intelligence / Profile preview
Ipsat Therapies was a Finnish biotechnology company dedicated to developing therapies that prevent antibiotic-induced dysbiosis and hospital-acquired infections. The company's core innovation involved the use of orally administered recombinant beta-lactamase enzymes designed to degrade residual antibiotics in the gastrointestinal tract before they could damage the gut microbiome. Its lead candidate, P1A, was developed to prevent antibiotic-associated diarrhea and Clostridioides difficile infections without affecting the systemic efficacy of the antibiotics. In 2011, the company was acquired by Synthetic Biologics (now Theriva Biologics), which continued the development of its technology under the program name SYN-004 (ribaxamase).
